After analyzing 25 seasons of Music League prompts

We categorize prompts by their fundamental structure to understand patterns, balance round variety, and create better prompts. We found that almost every prompt falls into three types: rule-based (constraints or criteria), vibe-based (emotional/metaphorical), and story-based (autobiographical). These categories emerged from observing how different prompts create different social dynamics—rule-based prompts invite correctness debates, vibe-based prompts spark interpretive discussion, and story-based prompts foster empathy and bonding.
